Clinical Health

During my 17 years of experience in physical health psychology services in the NHS, I have helped my patients come to terms with very challenging physical health conditions. Back in 2007 when I joined the NHS, I was one of the first Clinical Psychologists in the UK, specialised in Cardiology, offering psychological support to cardiac patients that suffered from cardiac events i.e. heart attacks, by pass surgeries, valve repair/replacement surgeries or other heart conditions, i.e. heart failure or congenital heart disease.

Suffering from a heart condition or a cardiac event, can evoke very strong feelings and it can be a particularly traumatising and stressful experience. Some of the difficulties my patients bring include depression, anxiety, overcoming trauma/the shock of diagnosis, loss of confidence, challenges in adjustment and changing lifestyle. Through therapy, my patients have the opportunity to process their experience, regain a sense of normality and feel empowered again.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, I also worked in an NHS long-covid service helping and supporting clients with their long-covid symptoms, which can often be debilitating and may have far reaching effects on them and their loved ones. I helped our patients with managing the psychological impact of fatigue, breathsleness, brain fog and lack of concentration, work related stress, low mood any other psychological sympotms related to long covid.

My experience also involves working with clients suffering from long term conditions, i.e. diabetes, respiratory conditions, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue etc, supporting my clients in their journey and understanding the impact that these may have in their lives.
